The AI Side Event of the 27th UN Science and Technology Conference titled "Shaping the Future of AI" was successfully held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on April 16, 2024. The event was co-hosted by the World Digital Technology Academy (WDTA) and the Cloud Security Alliance Greater China Region (CSA GCR). This event brought together over a hundred experts and decision-makers from governments, leading research institutions, and companies across more than fifty countries, signifying global unity and cooperation in addressing the enormous opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence. During the event, the establishment of the WDTA headquarters in Geneva was officially announced, along with the release of the AI STR (Secure, Trust, Responsible) series of research results. This marks an important milestone in global cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

Prof. Yale Li, Executive Chairman of the World Digital Technology Academy, convened a panel of global experts and leaders to thoroughly explore the future development of artificial intelligence.

The Vice-Chairman of the UN Committee on Science and Technology for Development (UN CSTD) and founding Chairman of WDTA, Peter Major, led a roundtable discussion with prominent experts in artificial intelligence. Participants included Laurie Locascio, Under Secretary of US Commerce for Standards and Technology, Director of NIST; Suzan (Sam) Miller, Director of Google DeepMind; Darlington Aakogo, Chairman of the African Union AI Economy Committee and founder and CEO of minoHealth AI Lab; Osama A. Rayis, Chairman of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development; and Heather Frase, Senior Researcher at Georgetown University's Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET). Other distinguished contributors were Weiqiang Wang, General Manager of the Intelligence Department of Ant Group; Nick Hamilton, Head of Governance, Risk, and Compliance at OpenAI; and Maxime Stauffer, Co-founder and CEO of the Simon Institute for Long-term Governance. Together, they discussed how generative artificial intelligence contributes to humanity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They also thoroughly examined issues related to AI self-awareness, trust, and security. This dialogue highlighted the critical role of international cooperation in addressing global AI challenges.

WDTA released the AI STR standards, including "Generative Artificial Intelligence Application Security Testing Standards" and "Large Language Model (LLM) Security Testing Methods," which represent a new benchmark in AI security assessment and testing. Additionally, WDTA officially launched the "Generative Artificial Intelligence Talent Development Framework" and "Certified Chief AI Officer (CAIO) and Certified AI Security Expert" programs to support comprehensive AI education, aimed at meeting the professional skill demands of the AI era and providing solid talent support for the future development of the digital economy and society.

The AI side event showcased the ongoing efforts of WDTA and its partners in technological innovation, global collaboration, and ethical AI development strategies in response to the rapid expansion and challenges of artificial intelligence. Emphasizing a collaborative, human-centered approach, the event outlined a forward-looking roadmap for secure and responsible AI development.
